What is the Mission of Metropolitan Adult Education Program?
The Metropolitan Adult Education Program provides a supportive learning environment that prepares students to achieve their fullest potential by developing skills to succeed in a global society.
What is the Metropolitan Adult Education Program (MAEP) and how does it work?
MAEP is a unit of the Metropolitan Education District (MetroED), and offers
adult education classes for free or at a very low-cost. The classes are convenient,
accessible, and have flexible schedules to meet the family and work needs of adults.
The courses range from basic skills in math, reading and writing, ESL, Citizenship,
Older Adults to Career Technical (Vocational) certificate programs. See the list of
subjects taught, below.
MAEP also has opportunities for eligible high school students lacking academic
credits required for graduation. High school students within San Jose Unified
School District and Campbell Union High School District may contact a counselor
to obtain information about classes and enrollment.
When & where are the classes taught?
The classes are offered mornings, afternoons and evenings at over 40 locations within
the cities of Campbell and San Jose. The classes are at locations that are easy to get
to, most via public transportation. Look for classes in community centers, senior centers,
public schools and many other locations.
How do I find locations, days & times of classes?
A Day and Evening Class Schedule is published twice-a-year and is mailed to all
residents in the MAEP attendance area (San Jose and Campbell). If you need a

Some comments made by adults attending MAEP:
MAEP has helped me learn, to get my GED, and to get a good career for myself and my family.
I expect my children to get an education, so I need to set the example.
School at MAEP makes me feel good!
I have learned to accomplish my goals at MAEP.
I now have the knowledge to achieve a better future for myself and my children.
MAEP has prepared me for the future, to get a good career,
and to help our children with their homework.
With education I now have more opportunities to help me in opening many new doors.
Education is helping me to succeed in life, to go to college and get a good career.
Education to me is everything. I didnt finish school when I was supposed to,
but Im here now, trying to better myself with higher learning as far as I can go.
Having a higher education is changing my whole life around, especially the way I live
and how my children and people see me, including having a better job. If it wasnt for
school, I would most likely be labeled as another statistic of my generation who hasnt
accomplished anything. To an extent I dont care what people think of me, however, I do
care that society perceives me as productive.
MAEP has helped me to get where I need to go.
