Metropolitan Adult Education Program to hold Annual Graduation
The Metropolitan Adult Education Program (MAEP) will hold its annual adult high school graduation on June 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Education District campus located at 760 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose.
"These adult graduates have continued to earn their high school credits while balancing other elements of their lives such as parenthood and full-time employment," MAEP Director, Suzi Glass, said. "These goal-setters are now goal-achievers who know they can complete milestones regardless of the obstacles."
Members of the MetroED Governing Board will present high school diplomas to more than 66 adult graduates. San Jose Unified and MetroED Board Member Rich Garcia, will serve as the graduation keynote speaker.
Many of the graduates have expressed interest in attending college in a variety of fields including child development, psychology, accounting, construction, physics and automotive. One outstanding student award will be given to an Independent study student. In addition, two students will receive lifelong learning awards for their ongoing education while overcoming great barriers in their lives.
The adult graduation ceremony will also feature student speakers, music by the San Jose Metropolitan Band, and a color guard presentation by the United States Marine Corps.
MAEP-a unit of MetroED-provides educational opportunities in more than 40 locations throughout San Jose and Campbell. A combined total of about 20,000 adults are served annually in a variety of day and evening classes, including; English as a Second Language, GED Preparation and Testing, Adult Basic Skills, Medical Assisting, Office Skills and more.
MetroED is the largest career-oriented educational organization in Santa Clara County, comprised of high school and adult career technical, academic and community programs.
MetroED annually provides more than 30,000 diverse students with the skills to help them be productive, income-earning and tax-paying contributors to Silicon Valley.
