MetroED’s Upcoming World Garden Workshop Features Growing Alliums and Worm Composting
The Metropolitan Adult Education Program (MAEP) is offering a new free-of-charge World Garden Workshop
on Growing Alliums and Worm Composting on October 14 at the Erikson Adult Center located at 4849 Pearl
Ave, San Jose.
Master Gardener and former MAEP student Governing Board member Susan Zaslaw will lead the Growing
Alliums workshop held from 10 to noon, rain or shine, at MetroED’s World Garden. The free workshop
will teach gardeners of all skill levels, about growing your own onions, garlic, shallots, leeks,
chives, and ornamental alliums.
Master Composter and MAEP World Garden Coordinator, Rita Bottini, will lead the Worm Composting part
of the workshop. Gardeners will learn about using red wigglers to compost kitchen waste and then
recycling the castings back into the home garden.
The World Garden is located on the Southwestern edge of the Erikson Adult Center campus. Look
for the redwood trees and the greenhouse roof after entering the parking lot on Minas Drive,
off of Pearl Avenue.
To register for the free workshop, call 723-6450 or email ritab@metroed.net.
